In this way try and get some idea of how they build up tension and release it—either by the use of question-answer sequences or by repetition and reiteration (this is a device used particularly effectively by some public speakers, as in Martin Luther King’s ‘I had a dream’ speech). In both cases what is involved is a sense of sequencing and timing—both in the construction and delivery of individual phrases and in the way that these are linked together to form a structured sequence within which tension is built up and then released.
