In fact, the time there would give him his first glance at many aspects of life that grew to define him, and gave him his first acquaintance with the city that was to be one of the most important relationships in his life. Franklin found lodgings in Little Britain and began a year’s employment in Palmer’s Printing House in Bartholomew Close. Franklin’s autobiography, the most widely read text by any eighteenthcentury American, clearly shows that he was neither romantic nor a Romantic, and the description he leaves of his reunion and marriage with Deborah plays a large part in that assessment.
